Latvia is essentially one great forest with 56% of the country covered in trees, so walking is a dream of verdant strolling or energetic hiking through some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe.
Land in Riga, Latvia's vibrant capital, with the finest art nouveau architecture in the world and some great bars and restaurants. With only 700,000 people, Riga is a highly walkable city and its cobbled streets and alleys will enthrall even the most seasoned traveller.
Then, slip on your walking shoes and head for the Kemeri National Park just west of Jurmala, a beautiful seaside town wih sandy beaches only 16 kilometres from Riga. Try the Keremi and Cena Bog Walk, a six hour trail through fens and swamps and along the Baltic coastline. Hike along the Lagoon Lake Kanieris and observe the many avian visitors from the specially designed bird tower.
